Bennie James Weston, Sr. was born in the Scarlett, GA community on May 1,
1934, to the late Aaron S. and Leatha Roberts Weston and was the 5th of 9 children.
He was a graduate of Ralph J Bunche High School class of 1953. During his time in
school he excelled in mathematics and science, winning numerous awards and
distinctions.
Bennie then enlisted in the United States Army Infantry Division and served active
duty from 1953-1956, with another 5 years of reserve service, resulting in a
Honorable Discharge in May 1961. After leaving the military he earned an Associates
Degree in Tailoring from Jones College.
On September 1, 1956, Bennie was joined in holy matrimony to Daisy Taylor. During
their 67 years of marriage, they were the proud and loving parents of 4 children.
Bennie was a dedicated employee of the United States Postal Service for 35 years.
He was also a faithful member of Dayspring Baptist Church, joining the congregation in
1970. He served as chairmen of the trustee ministry for many years, contributed to the
finance team, and was a dedicated building facilitator. Of noteworthy mention is the
instrumental role he payed in the relocation of Dayspring from Jefferson Street to its
current location on Dunn Ave. Additional affiliations include being a founding and 20
year member of the Northeast Florida RV Club.
Bennie was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Bennie was very dedicated to his family, sacrificing and serving any who had need
and want. His deep love for his wife Daisy, and daughter Bennita was evident and his
second loves were his grandchildren, Sara and Patric.
Bennie was known for his deep sacrificial love, playfulness and humor. He
transitioned from earthly life to eternal life on December 9, 2023. He was
predeceased by his children Paula and Darryl, and Bennie Jr.; brothers Felix and
Willie Alphonso; sisters Dorothy and Ethel Lee.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: his devoted wife, Daisy, one loving daughter,
Bennita (Robert) Young; two grandchildren, Sara and Patric Young: siblings, Calvin
(Barbara) Weston, Bobby (Ella) Weston, Laura Weston and Bettye Cane; brother-in-
law William (Catherine) Taylor and his beloved nephew Larry (Betty) Weston, as well
as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.
