Mrs. Berthenia Merix Williams was born on September 7, 1940 in Lake City, Florida. She was the youngest of three children born to the late Nathaniel Robert Merix and Mrs. Elevia Dix Merix. After relocating to Jacksonville, Florida, she attended Duval County Schools and was a graduate of New Stanton Senior High School –Class of 1959. Furthering her education, Mrs. Williams earned her Nursing Certification at Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ).
On February 19, 1960, Berthenia married Zema Williams, and this union was blessed with two children. She worked in the Human Social Services field for over 25 years. As a devoted member of Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, she served faithfully on District # 4, under the direction of Deacon Phillip Collins. She supported various organizations and charities, including Abyssinia Mission Ministry and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Mrs. Berthenia Merix Williams departed this life on February 20, 2024. She was preceded her in death by her husband; sister, Mrs. Beulah M. Armstrong; brother, Nathaniel Merix; sisters -in -law, Mrs. Marilyn Thompson, Mrs. Carolyn Williams, and Mrs. Evelyn Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Ms. Felicia M. Williams; son, Derrick D. Williams (Debbie); 6 grandchildren, Javaris Kornegay, Ms. Dereka Williams, Derrick D. Williams, II, Mrs. Darece D. Williams -Robinson (Jhamari), Ms. Destini S. Jackson, and Antonio T. Williams; 3 great -grandchildren, Jayla D. Robinson, Jaylen D. Robinson, and Aziel Williams; sister -in -law, Mrs. Geraldine Jackson; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including a special friend, Ms. Alena Smith.
