Ms. Bobbie L. Singleton was born November 27, 1926 in Charleston, South Carolina. At an early age, she relocated to Jacksonville, where she attended the local schools, graduating from Stanton Vocational Senior High School – Class of 1945.
Furthering her education, she received her Nursing Certification at Brewster Hospital, the first medical facility to serve Jacksonville's African American community. Ms. Singleton was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by University Hospital (now U.F. Health), where she rendered over twenty-two years of dedicated service before retiring.
Other affiliations include being a member of The Dayspring Church, Rev. Dr. Jeffrey K. Rumlin, Pastor, where she served as an Usher for many years; former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a School Bus Aide for Duval County Public School System.
As a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Ms. Singleton was committed to providing a quality Catholic education to her loved ones.
She was predeceased by her mother, Mrs. Janie Sweetwine Watson; brother, Nehemiah Sweetwine; daughter, Carmina Ortagus ( aka Shyrell Singleton ) and lifelong friend, Ms. Ethel Reid.
On March 13, 2022, Ms. Bobbie L. Singleton went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her granddaughter, Lisa Iszard; great granddaughter, Carrisa Iszard; special niece, Earlette Burnell Hannibal; devoted cousins, Sandra Washington,Velinda Sturgis and Joann Grant; devoted friend, Phyllistine Dennison; godchildren, Lance McFarland and Dawn Glass; a number of other relatives and friends.
