Obituary

Obituary

Mr. Bruce Vernard Singleton was born to the late John Dunlap, Jr. and Mrs. Severta Jean Dunlap on September 7, 1957.  Bruce departed this life on November 10, 2022.  He was educated in the Philadelphia, PA school system, where he graduated from Germantown High School.

He accepted Christ at an early age.  At the age of 15, Bruce joined the Lifelong Brotherhood of the African Peoples Party, where he began to take up martial arts.  This is where he obtained the name "Lumumba Seku" and mastered the Art of Jujitsu.

After graduating from high school, he joined the United Air Force, where he served honorably and completed 20 years of dedicated service, serving eight (8) years as a Military Police Officer and twelve (12) years as a Technical Operations Specialist.

During his service, he met and married Ms. Audrey Coleman and relocated to Denver, Colorado.  This union brought forth his first child, Raequel Nichole Dunlap in 1991.

In 1995, he remarried Ms. Frances Mecartty and to this union Nicole Dunlap was born in 1997 and Angelique Dunlap in 1999.

Upon his retirement from the military, Bruce worked as a Correctional Officer in the Denver Colorado area for ten (10) years.  He ended his professional career as an Owner/Operator Truck Driver when he recently retired in May of 2022.

Bruce loved the musical era of the 70's and 80's.  He knew the lyrics to so many, classic songs and would sing them to the top of his lungs when he had just enough bubbly.  Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston and the Temptations were among his favorites, and he made sure that he let it be known that Luther Vandross didn't have anything on him.

Bruce was ONE of a KIND.  If you didn't remember something from years ago or early childhood, he would remind you, over, over and over again.  He was a joy to be around and wanted to leave a legacy behind that he always treated people the way he wanted to be treated; with Grace, Mercy and Love.

He was predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Nicole Dunlap.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Ms. Raequel Dunlap and Ms. Angelique Dunlap; sisters, Ms. Vetra Dunlap, Ms. Sharon Dunlap and Mrs. Darletha Dunlap-Randolph (Nathaniel); brothers, Mr. Larry Dunlap, Mr. Gary Dunlap and Mr. John Dunlap; good friends, Tukofo and Dave Flamer; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will remember him.
