ADAMS Lt. Col. Carl L. Adams, Sr., Ret., age 63, well known educator, passed away November 11, 2010. A Jacksonville native, Mr. Adams was born to the late Freddie Lee Adams and Gladys Mary Lee Adams. He received his early education in the Duval County Public School System, graduating from New Stanton Senior High School- Class of 1965. Furthering his education, he attended Florida A & M University receiving both a B.S. degree in Mathematics and a Masters degree in Education. Lt. Col. Adams was retired from the U. S. Army/Army Reserve after over 30 years of Honorable service to his country. As one of Duval County's Outstanding Educators, he was employed with the Duval County School Board where he rendered 21 years of dedicated service and taught Computer Science in the Community Education Dept. of FCCJ. Lt. Col. Adams grew up and was baptized in Zion Hope Baptist Church and later became a member of Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Robert E. Herring, Sr. Other affiliations include Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Sons of Solomon #166, (M.W.U,G.L.A, P.H.A), Cresent # 50- Chapter of the Royal Arch P. H. A., North Florida Council #1 Royal and Select Masters, S. M. Davis Commandery #99- Knights Templar, Tillman Valentine Consistory #22-33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Rabia Temple #8 and Order of the Eastern Star- Salome Chapter. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Mrs. Carla V. Simmons (Anthony), Ms. Michelle M. Adams and Carl Lee Adams, Jr.; grandchildren, Kaira Simmons, Olivia Simmons, Amara Simmons, Carelle Adams, Carina Adams and Carl L. Adams, III; brother, Marvain L. Adams; sister, Ms. Barbara J. Richardson; aunts, Ms. Clyde Adams and Ms. Annie Mae Adams; a number of other relatives and friends. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 10 AM, Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Zanders, II, Pastor, Rev. Dr. E. I. Norman, Pastor Emeritus of New Redeemeded Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary Friday from 5 PM until 7 PM, where Fraternal Rites will begin at 7 PM. Interment will be in Peetsville Memorial Cemetery of Lawtey, FL.
