Obituary

Coach Jimmie Alphonso Johnson, affectionaltely known as "Tab," 88, well-known Educator and Administrator, passed away peacefully January 31, 2022, surrounded by his family.  A native of Jacksonville, Mr. Johnson was educated in the local public schools, graduating from Stanton Senior High School – Class of 1952.  Furthering his education, he attended Florida A&M University, where he earned both the Bachelors and Masters degrees.  As one of Duval County's Outstanding Educator's, Mr. Johnson was employed by Duval County School Board as an Educator and Principal, having rendered over thirty-seven years of dedicated service before retiring.  Other affiliations include being a  member of St. Paul AME Church, where he served as Trustee Emeritus, Sunday School Superintendent and Tenor in the Men's Choir; Life Member of Florida Athletic Coaches Association, Inc. and former Chairman of Duval County School Board.  He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Thelma Whitted Johnson.  Survivors include his children, LaVonne J. Frison (Lawrence), Janice Johnson and Jewel Johnson; grandchildren, LaTasha Frison and Jordan Johnson; great grandchild, Devin O'Bryant; a number of other relatives and friends.
