Obituary

Deacon James Curtis Prime, 88, passed away peacefully February 26, 2022.  A native of Jacksonville, he attended the local public schools, graduating from Old Stanton Senior High School – Class of 1951.  Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country faithfully before being Honorably Discharged.  Furthering his education, Mr. Prime attended Edward Waters College and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science.  Mr. Prime was employed as a Manager by Southern Bell Telephone Company (now BellSouth), becoming the first African American to be hired in the 9 states where Southern Bell existed. As a personnel Manager, he used his pen to introduce many other African Americans to the world of telecommunications before retiring after rendering over twenty-three years of dedicated service.  Other affiliations include being a faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon; member of The NASITRA Club and the JRE Lee FAMU Alumni Chapter.  Deacon Prime was predeceased by his parents, Nathaniel, Sr. and Mrs. Cornelia McCray Prime; his son, Curtis Taylor and his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Annette Prime.  Survivors include his children, Johnathan Prime and Jacquelyn Prime Thompson; sister, Cathryn Luse (Arthur); brother, David Prime; fourteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
