Obituary

Deacon Solister Johnson, 95, passed away peacefully December 28, 2021. A native of Cordele, GA, having lived in Jacksonville most of his life, he attended the local schools, graduating from Stanton Vocational High School – Class of 1950.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country before being Honorably Discharged.  Deacon Johnson was employed by Keystone Shipping Company as a Merchant Seaman, where he rendered several years of dedicated service before retiring.  Other affiliations include being a faithful member of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, member of the Sick & Shut In Ministry, Sunday School Teacher and Leader of District #12.  He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Mrs. Olivia Mathis Johnson; daughter, Mrs. Lynda Gilliam and wife of 55 years, Mrs. Carrie Wright Johnson.  Survivors include his daughter, Ms. Jacquelyn Williams; grandson, Christian Fernandez; great grandson, Grayson Fernandez; brothers, Samuel Johnson and Joseph Johnson (Dorothy); sister, Ms. Lucille Dawsey; sister-in-law, Mrs. Gertie Bell Knight (Albert); son-in-law, Thomas Gilliam; a number of other relatives and friends, including devoted niece and caregiver, Ms. Dorothy Polite.
