Obituary

Sis. Dorothy E. Borroughs was born November 15 th , 1929, to the late Sylvester and Mamie Ellison. She attended local schools in Jacksonville and graduated from Stanton High School in 1947. She continued her education at the historical George A. Brewster Hospital and School of Nurse Training where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse and additional training and certification as an Administrator of Medicine from Baptist Memorial Hospital both located in Jacksonville Florida.

She proudly served as a nurse at the Jacksonville Naval Hospital where she rendered 25 years of dedicated service. During her tenure there, among her many accomplishments she was honored as the Naval Air Station Jacksonville Woman of the Year in 1978 and Sergeant at Arms for the American Federation of Government Employees local 696. Her passion for caring for others and providing strong leadership also extended to various other affiliations she proudly held membership with. She served as State President of the Senior Mission Two and was Past President of the Educational Baptist Convention.

Sis Dorothy E. Borroughs was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Institutional Church where she served for 68 years.  During her time as a member, she served as a member of the Young Adult Choir, The Nurses Guild, The Sanctuary Choir, Angels of Grace Dance Ministry, Keenagers, Bethel Baptist Institutional Federal Credit Union, One Accord Investment Club and Deacon Emeritus. Her presence and most importantly her love will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Sylvester and Mamie Ellison;  sisters Marguierite Pashal and Jennie Elps (Ivory); her son James Cassius Borroughs Sr; nephews James I and Reginald Elps; and her great granddaughter Ryleigh London Johnson. The family also finds comfort in knowing she was met at Heaven's Gate by her two "Sisters In Love": Mabel Fudge and Sarah Wallace.

She leaves a very dedicated and loving family to mourn her absence: her son Warren C. Borroughs; granddaughter Dorothy Borroughs-Thompson(Joseph); Jennifer Borroughs-Chrispin(Jeremiah); grandsons James C. Borroughs, Jr. and Carl G. Borroughs (Charmaine); Great-Grand Children: Christopher Mitchell and Carlina Borroughs; Great-Great Grandsons Caidyn and Kamren Borroughs-Williams; niece Iveria Cromity (Bill); Goddaughter Gwendolyn Marlow(Guy) ; her "adopted" military children Vincent Williams(Donna): First cousins Hazel Varner and Vernice Jenkins; Brother In Law Jerome Elps Sr.; a great host of many sorrowing family and friends including her "Brother In Love" Herman Wallace.

The family would also be remiss not to mention her loving care givers Divita Sutton and Trish Harmond, and the caring team at Community Hospice of St. Vincent's.
