Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Smith Floyd, well-known educator, passed away on  August 4, 2021 at the age of 95. A native of Jacksonville, Mrs. Floyd attended the
local schools, graduating from Stanton Senior High School – Class of 1944.  Furthering her education, she attended Edward Waters College, where she earned a B.S. degree and later a Master's degree from Florida A&M University. As one of Duval County's Outstanding Educators, Mrs. Floyd was employed by the Duval County School Board as a teacher, having rendered over 32 years of dedicated service before retiring. Other affiliations include being a faithful member of The Bethel Church, Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Jr., Lead Pastor and Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Sr., Pastor Emeritus; the Duval County Retired Teachers Union and Live Long & Like It Social Club. She was predeceased by her parents, Dewey and Roselle Sapson Smith; husband, Nathaniel Floyd and her siblings; James Kennebrew, Naomi Lewis, Mary B. Smith, Dewey Smith, Jr. and Fulton Smith.  Survivors include her nieces, Pamela Thornton (Harold) and Joyce Boudoin (Luther); nephews, Harold Smith (Debra), Paul Smith, Ronald Lewis (Dana), Kenneth Lewis, Eric Hickson, Sterling Smith (Pamela) and Dewey Smith, III (Chell); a number of cousins, other relatives and friends.
