Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson Downing passed away peacefully October 19, 2020.  A native of Jacksonville, she attended the local public schools, graduating from Old Stanton Senior High School – Class of 1944.  Furthering her education, she attended FAMC, earning a BS degree in 1948.  As one of Duval County's Outstanding Educators, Mrs. Downing retired after rendering over 25 years of dedicated service.  She was a Founding Member of the Jacksonville Chapter of The Links, Inc., Smart Set Bridge Club and faithful member of Historic Mt. Zion AME Church.  She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Jean C. Downing, Sr.  Survivors include her children, Jean C. Downing, Jr. (Dorothea) and Keith A. Downing (Delores E.); 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; her devoted niece, Carolyn Palmer and Marcel K. White her "other son"; other relatives and friends.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society in her name.
