Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn Bartley Engram was born to the union of the late Joshua Leotis Bartley Sr. and Cecilia Williams Bartley on June 23, 1923 in Jacksonville,Florida. She attended the local schools of Duval County and was a graduate of Stanton Senior High School. Furthering her education, she matriculated at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, located on the highest of seven hills in Tallahassee, Florida. During her tenure at FAMU,she was voted to be an attendant to Miss FAMU, while earning a bachelor of science degree in Home Economics. Also, she met the "Love of her Life"and later she was united in holy matrimony to Timothy George Engram.

As One of Florida's Outstanding Educators, Mrs. Engram started her career in Volusia County Schools teaching in Daytona Beach, at Campbell Street Senior High School, where she remained for over 20 years. After relocating to Jacksonville, Florida, she taught in Duval County Public Schools at Douglas Anderson Junior- Senior High School for many years. Her last assignment was at Sandalwood Senior High School. In 1996 she retired as a Librarian, completing over 30 years of dedicated service.

Mrs. Engram was a member of a number of civic and social organizations including the National Council of Negro Women; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated-Gamma Rho Omega Chapter.

On April 25, 2023, Mrs. Engram passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; siblings, Mrs.Theodora Helen Bartley Smith, Ms. Alfreda Victoria Bartley, Joshua Leotis Bartley Jr., William Roscoe Bartley; nephews, Julian Leotis Bartley, Julian Leotis Bartley Jr. and David Engram.Mrs. Bartley loved her family dearly and leaves to cherish her memory,a very close niece, like a daughter, Mrs. Hermya Smith Johnson (James); stepson, William "Bill" Engram (Joyce); nephews, George Engram Jr., James Hunter (Lorraine); nieces Mrs. Edith Lynn Bartley Rice (Stephen), Mary Linda Sue Bartley, Ms. Carolyn Engram Sullivan (Richard), Jennifer Engram Misick (Rev. Glenn), Benetta Engram Gaston (Harold), Maxine Engram, Beverly Engram Wilkes, Celeste Hunter;; a number of other relatives and friends.
