Evelyn
Gadling-Mcwhite
February 7, 2025
Evelyn Yvonne Gadling-McWhite went to rest on Friday, February 7, 2025, surrounded
by her family. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 4,1942, to the late Benny
and Vineta Patterson (deceased). She spent her formative years in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania where she was raised by her aunt Carriebelle Allen. Evelyn felt a strong
call to work in a helping profession because she loves caring for others.
Evelyn attended schools in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Jacksonville, Florida where
she graduated. She attended a nursing program at University Hospital where she
eventually received a job and worked there for 30 years 1965 until 1995.
Her unwavering devotion and affection for the Lord led her to attend church. She met
and married Rev. John Gadling (deceased) where she served as First Lady at Mt. Zion
Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed fundraising for the church as she would often
say, "I'm going to make sure I get donations from all the doctors and nurses." Evelyn
favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6: &;Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean
not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct
your paths.
Evelyn retired and opened an Adult Family Care Home, continuing to care for veterans
and senior citizens. She would have services for her clients and spent time nurturing
and caring for them. She later met Charlie McWhite III and married him on July 4, 2009,
building a beautiful life together for over 15 years. She spent 40 plus years as a
compassionate and dedicated nurse, caring for others with a gentle hand and a loving
heart. Her passion for helping people extended beyond her career, as she was always
willing to lend support to friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. She was a devoted
wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who found joy in serving others. She
brought warmth and kindness to everyone she met.
