Our beloved Phillip Ruiz, 57, born January 30, 1966, in Bronx, New York, to the late Carlos Ruiz and late Zebarra Lawson. He departed this life on January 2, 2024.
Phillip, affectionately known as "Philly Phil" was raised in Queens, New York, and attended public schools. He earned an Associates of Science Degree in General Education from Troy State University.
In 1985, Phillip Ruiz joined the United States Army as a Private. He served from 1985 to 2005. After 20 years of honorable and faithful service, he retired as First Sergeant. During his tenure in the U.S. Army, he served in numerous leadership roles and deployed in several deployments including the Gulf War during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Philly Phil met and fell in love with the love of his life, Brenda and united in marriage in 1991. This union was blessed with a loving blended family of four.
Philly Phil loved spending quality time with his family. He unconditionally adored and loved his family with all his heart, soul, and mind. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, cooking, decorating, and conquering new technology gadgets. If there was a better way to enhance his family's living through technology or a new gadget, Philly Phil would find it. He was actively involved in supporting school events in the community.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Carlos Ruiz and Zebarra Lawson.
Philly Phil leaves behind to celebrate life and to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving wife of 32 years, Brenda, four daughters Shalondra Suto (Joseph) of Schofield Barracks, HI, Khalia Ruiz of Brooklyn, NY, Jamilah Hackman (Antoine) of Sunrise, FL, Briana Ruiz of Jacksonville, FL, six grandchildren, Kalil, Alana, Khloe, Aubrey, Damien and Kenzo; his loving Aunt Ramona Lawson,and dear cousins Bryan Lawson and Victor Foreman, and a host of family and friends.
