Obituary

Jesse L Wilcox, Sr was born on October 24, 1933, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was the fourth of eight children born to the late Robert L and Florine Wilcox.

Jesse attended Stanton High School and Edward Waters College, served in the Army, and worked at the United States Postal Service, retiring after 30 plus years.

He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R. L. Gundy, where he served as a Trustee and worked with the Boy Scout troop.

Jesse touched and influenced many lives through many organizations in the city. He was an Honorary Potentate and an Illustrious Potentate of Rabia Temple No. 8, Jacksonville, Florida.

He was a member of the Astro Gents Men's Club where he coached several sports teams, he was an avid bowler, a member of the Jacksonville Golfers Guild Association, and a pioneer member of the William Raines Athletic booster club until his health declined.

Jesse passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Robert L and Florine Wilcox, youngest Son, Reuben LaZarn Wilcox; Brothers Robert Jr and Leonard Wilcox., Sister Emma Ruth Wansley and Grandson, Darrin Wilcox, Sr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving Wife of 38 years, Rosa Wilcox, Daughter, Nita Wilcox Ray (Matthew), Sons: Jesse Wilcox Jr (Camay), Alonzo Poole ( Kiajaha )., Six Grandchildren: Celeste Wilcox Bolden (Chris), Don D Green, LaZarn Wilcox (Chloe), Alani Poole, Ari Poole, Amari Poole, Sisters: Dora Smith (Roosevelt), Doretha Smith and Audrey Hankerson, Brother: John Wilcox Sr (Frankie), Sister in Laws: Dorothy Wilcox and Catherine Wilcox, (9) Great Great Grandchildren, (2) Great Great Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loyal friends.
