Obituary

Pastor Emeritus of True Believers Primitive Baptist Church, Dr. Johnnie F. Chatman, Sr, age 87, passed away July 19, 2018.  A native Yorktown, Virginia, Dr. Chatman resided in Jacksonville, FL, most of his life, where he received his formal education, graduating from Stanton Senior High School- Class of 1949. Furthering his studies, he attended Jacksonville Theological Seminary, where he earned his B.S. and PhD.  Dr. Chatman was employed with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Handler until retiring, rendering 30 years of dedicated service. Other affiliations include President of Chatman. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary B. Chatman; children, Ms. Mary A. Chatman, Mrs. Anita Riles (Louis), Michael A. Chatman, Mrs. Phadra D. Pinckney (Derrick), Elder Johnnie F. Chatman, Jr. (Devonya), Elder Ericka Laidler (Keith) and Mrs. Cheryle Jones (Cedric); 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Willie Mae Hayes; devoted nieces, Ms. Rosalyn Gilbert, Mrs. Lisa Smiley, Ms. Edna Chatman; a number of other relatives and friends.  the Mail Handlers Union – Local # 318, Masonic Order, also Founder/Owner of Chatman's Christian Academy.  He was preceded in death by both parents, John and Mrs. Edna Wester Chatman.
