Obituary

Kenneth Bruce Scott was born May 28, 1957 to the late Benjamin Scott and Ms. Bernice O'Kane Hartley.  He was raised in Jacksonville, Florida and attended public schools and was a 1975 Graduate of the New Stanton Senior High School.  He worked for Radio Empire and Southern Wine and Spirits for several years and then worked for the City of Jacksonville Forest Division until he became disabled from back injury.

Kenneth accepted Christ at an early age, baptized by the late Rev. H. H. Wright, he was a Man of God, believed in the Word as taught by his mother to always pray and stay in church.  He was a member of District # 3 under the leadership of the late Deacon Willie Robinson.  He was a man of little words, kind, but no non-sense.  He loved his children and family, but everyone knew he was a loner, and did not tally around for gatherings or other family functions.  Everyone knew when he threw his hand up, he was gone.  Even at church, he would speak and shake hands and he would get in the wind.  He always told his sister Texie Ann that she was not going to hold him up after church.  He would try to pull her out the door, hit her on the head and run.

Kenneth was a devoted father, son, brother and friend.  He would do anything for people he knew and those he didn't know.  He was not a complainer, just most of the time easy going.  Kenneth, his name transformed over the years. from early childhood everyone called him "Daddy", but his sister, the late Mrs. Jean Daniels (Honey) named him "Poppa Jack", then as he got older, all his brothers called him "Jay", given to him by family friend, Kenneth Jackson (Fat Boy).  Kenneth loved his brothers and had a special relationship with Ben and hung with all the boys, Lionell and Woodrow (June) until they left home for the military.  Kenneth always teased his sister Yvonne about her loving her yard and named her "Flower Lady".

Kenneth had a nickname for some of his children, Texsena (Mom Pooh), Maurice (Pooh), and Kenneth Jr. (Little Kenny).  Leonard and Unique dodged the nick names.  Everyone who knew him soon learned he loved his mother and was such a good son.  He would help take care of her and never got tired.

Kenneth was always very protective of his sister Texie Ann, who he named "Super D", and has been very concerned about his brother Ben, who he named "Spud".  He called his brother Lionell, the "Unpaid Football Coach:, because if you don't want to discuss sports, don't call him.  June (Woodrow), he was the calm one of all of us, but he knew what to do to help him when he wanted to cut the yard.  "Jay" as brothers call him was a sharp dresser.  He ironed everything to a tee and when you saw him, all his pants had that special "crease" and he wore his signature sneakers "Converse".

Kenneth loved all his nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.  His nieces, Neicy, Helen and Sandy always came around him and his favorite nephew "Little Ben", who he named "Rabbit", however his number one girl is his niece Patricia Ann.  After reading his bible every morning, he knew that phone was going to ring.  He talked to her every day and he often say "Momma, my niece is very special", and then would laugh.

On March 4, 2021 at 6:10 AM, God spoke and he answered.  Our hearts are ripped, our minds troubled, our souls burdened.  This was such a "Shock", but we have come to understand that God's time is not our time.  He had to leave us, it was his appointed time and focus on his favorite saying, "It's all in God's Hand", and when he said his favorite word, it was "BAM".

He enjoyed talking about his childhood, his siblings, his children, and he always said we had two sets of "Bay Bay" Kids in our family.  These moments were so funny.  Yvonne children and Honey children, Kip and Shawn, he called them the "Real Goolies".  His voice has been silenced, but the Love for him shall forever get stronger.

Kenneth's mother, Ms. Bernice O'Kane Hartly; father, Benjamin Scott; 3 sisters, Katherine (Dang), Jean Daniels (Honey), Helen Ivey (Buck); 4 brothers, Clarence Hartley (Buddy), Jacob Hartley (J.D.), James Hartley (Bo), James Hartley (Jimmy) all preceded him in death.

Kenneth leaves a profound legacy; 5 children, Kenneth Scott, Jr. Unique Daniels (Kenyana), Leonard Cole, Maurice Scott and Texsena Bernice Scott; 2 sisters, Texie Ann Scott and Yvonne Ward (Jacksonville); 3 brothers, Benjamin Scott, Woodrow McCoy (Veronica) Jacksonville and Lionell McCoy (Valerie) Phoenix, AZ; 17 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren; adopted sons, Purnell Harris and Howard Harris; adopted brothers, Benny Jackson, Rev.
