Obituary

Margie Gauldin Hood was born on June 11, 1930 to James Lee Gauldin and Sudie Mae Gauldin
(Madison) in Fitzgerald, GA. She was the oldest daughter of five sisters and at the age of 2, her family
relocated to Jacksonville, FL where she resided until 2014. She lived with her daughter for a period of
time in North Carolina from 2014 to 2020 and then moved to Arkansas with her daughter from 2020
until her passing in 2023.

She accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was a lifelong member of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. Before her Alzheimer's took control of her life, she was very active in the church as a Deaconess, served as an usher, participated in district fellowships, was a member of the counting team, and helped in the nursery at the church.

Margie was educated in the Duval County Public Schools system and graduated from Stanton High School. She had a love for children and education so she opened a daycare center. She owned and operated Little Red Riding Hood Daycare from 1969 until 1982, and she was able to touch the lives of so many young ones. After closing the daycare, she became a certified nursing assistant for several years and subsequently finished her working career as a security officer for Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

She was an extrovert and never met a stranger. She loved being the center of attention and enjoyed
engaging with people, laughing, and telling stories. One of her closest friends wrote a poem at the age
of 17 titled 'Good Whiskey'. It's a 'colorful' poem and although her Alzheimer's was gradually erasing
her memory, she could still recite the poem until several years ago. All the younger people she
encountered enjoyed it so much that they learned the poem to recite it with her. Just give her a glass to
raise in a toast and she would commence reciting the poem.

Margie transitioned from this life on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in Fayetteville, AR. She is
preceded in death by her parents, James Lee Gauldin and Sudie Mae Gauldin, her sister Joyce Johnson
(Gauldin), her sister Sandra Gauldin, her brother-in-law Perry Davis, her brother-in-law Norman Owens,
her sister-in-law Kathryn Hood, and her ex-husband Alfred Lee Hood Jr. She leaves to mourn: her one
and only adored and devoted daughter Shauna Hood Padgett (Springdale, AR), sisters Dorothy Davis
(Perry), Carolyn Owens (Norman), brother-in-law James Johnson (Johnnie Mae), sister-in-law Kay
Frances Hood, sister-in-law Bonnie Hood, brother-in-law Grady Hood (Gary, IN), and a host of nieces,
nephews and cousins.
