Obituary

Marsharine Mike Calhoun made her entrance into this earth on April 10, 1946 in Chester, Pennsylvania. Anticipating her birth as their first born was Sylvania Mike and Ida Bell Mike.

She attended public school in Waycross, GA from 1952 to 1963.  She then completed her high school years in Jacksonville, FL., from 1963 to 1964, graduating from Northwestern High School, class of 1964.

Marsha accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at an early age at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Waycross, GA.

Marsha was joined in holy matrimony to Ronnie J. Calhoun, Sr., on June 24, 1966. Marsha and Ronnie were married almost 55 years and to this union three children were born. She was truly a devoted and ultimate wife to Ronnie and truly represented Proverbs 18:22 (He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD).

Marsha was employed at Banner Food Store (Cleveland Road) from 1964 until 1972.  October1966, she became gainfully employed by Prudential Insurance Company, where she served in various positions in the IWP Department, including supervisor (first black supervisor in the IWP department) and trainer until she retired in 2007.

She became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1972 serving under several Pastors to include her current Pastor, Rev. James Wiggins, Jr, of whom she loved very much. She served faithfully in various areas of ministry to include Youth Director as well as being a faithful member of the choir.  She served tirelessly at St. Paul Lutheran Church until her transition. For whatever she could find her hands to do, she did so with joy.

Marsha was gifted with many talents that she shared with family and friends; she loved to design T-shirts and outfits. She was an avid collector of dolls and she had a keen eye for jewelry. She enjoyed baking cakes, pies and finding new recipes; even making up recipes as she did often and yes, we ate them all. She loved shopping, traveling, giving, helping, caring, and serving. She loved being a mother to many, spending time with her nieces, nephews, and godson, those were precious times to her.

Marsha enjoyed all her electronics, relaxing in her recliner, and checking on her family and friends, as well as. She so easily included everyone she met into her circle of love. She embraced people from every walk of life. She simply LOVED family and to her everyone was family.

Marsha gave the best hugs; you could never come into her presence or exit her presence without her warm, tight, unforgettable, and genuine hugs. Her love for children whether related or not was beyond immeasurable, her touch, her smile and her unconditional love shown to all, shall forever be her Legacy.

She was a committed and faithful wife, the most loving and blessed mother, a precious daughter, a stellar sister, an extraordinaire cousin, super-duper aunt, and caring friend.

To Ronnie she was his "Slim," to her children she was called "Ma, Momma, Ma Marsh" to her siblings and friends she was called "Marsha." She simply LOVED family and to her everyone was family.

On Monday, March 8, 2021 the day of New Beginnings, Marsha answered the call from God, accepted her wings and bid us farewell as she quietly transitioned from earth to Heaven.
