Obituary

Minister Betty Jean Thomas Williams was born on November 26, 1942, to Ernest O. Thomas and Mrs. Hattie Platt Thomas in Jacksonville, Florida, where she received her education and graduated from Stanton High School - Class of  1960. She married her husband, Oscar L. Williams August 23, 1975.  Betty retired from Vistakon/Johnson & Johnson after many years of dedicated service. She was also a licensed Agent for A.L. Williams. Like the butterfly that symbolizes transformations and joy, Betty was saved in her early years in Sanderson, FL under Elder A. T. Johnson. She became an ordained minister July 2010 and a member minister of Thomas Chapel Church of God by Faith, Jacksonville Beach under Elder June Lundy Sr. and Elder Terence Sapp where she worked in outreach & ministerial duties. As she was also the founder of the Firebrand Prayer Warriors where she went to various places to pray for the sick and in need ensuring that she changed lives with each prayer and each heart she touched. Butterflies represent the never-ending cycle of life like when she said prayers for others.

The lesson of the butterfly is letting go of old behavior and expounding into the next phase of existence. Each of us transforms into multiple stages in our life. It is only through exertion that we emerge who we will be next. Like the butterfly Betty Jean Williams was a free spirit that spread her wings and touched so many lives in so many ways. Betty loved traveling and spending time with her family. In the years before her and her family traveled the world to various places every year. She loved to read her bible and was always laughing and smiling, praying for others. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother and aunt, friend.

On July 8, 2021, God decided to pick his beautiful butterfly and take her back to serve his purpose in his garden. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her son, Kenneth Roberts and daughter-in-law, Evelyn Roberts; two brothers, Abraham Thomas and Ernest Thomas Jr. and her three sisters, Edna T. Farquharson, Annette T Williams and Clarice Thomas.

Betty leaves to cherish her memories by her loving husband of 45 years, Oscar Williams; her daughter, Valencia Roberts; grandchildren, Darnell McCord, Vernita 'Nene" McCord, Valtrice McCord, Elesiah Roberts and Kenyetta Roberts; great grandchildren, Daniye'l Williams, Theodore Floyd Jr., Serenity Williams, Jah'mani Walker, Avani McCord, Zariyah McCord and Solana McCord; sister, Gladys Oliver; brothers, Reginald "Red" Thomas and George Thomas (Marjorie); long-time friends, Geneva Edwards, Catherine Mattison and Carolyn Carey (Alphonso); a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and a loving church family.
