Mr. Lindsey Jones was born on July 22, 1933 in Loughman, Florida to the late Sam
Jones and Maereatha Tyson Jones. Prior to graduation from high school, he
enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country honorably for
four years. He returned home to complete his high school education at Oakland
High School located in Haines City, Florida and graduated in the Class of 1957. Mr.
Jones matriculated at Florida A&M University and graduated with a Bachelors
Degree in Industrial Arts in 1961.
Following Lindsey's college graduation, he became a teacher in Cocoa, Florida,
employed by Brevard County Public Schools for four years. He left education to
pursue a career in drafting at Cape Canaveral for five years. After his time at the
Cape, he transferred to Gainesville, Florida where he was employed as a Quality
Control Supervisor at General Electric/Energizer/Gates Energy rendering over 20
years of dedicated service before retiring.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Ms. Synester Pitts. This union was
blessed with two children, Cheryl Denise Jones and Michael Shea Jones. Their
family was also blessed with his son, Lindsey Jones, Jr., from an earlier marriage to
Nancy Rivers Jones. Following both Mr. and Mrs. Jones' retirement, they relocated
to Jacksonville, Florida, after living over 30 years in Gainesville, Florida.
Early in life, Mr. Jones accepted Christ as His Lord and Savior. After moving to
Jacksonville in 2001, Mr. Jones was rebaptized and became a member of Bethel
Baptist Institutional Church under the leadership of Bishop R.W. McKissick, Jr.
His other affiliation included membership in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
On Thursday, August 25, 2022, Mr. Lindsey Jones passed away peacefully. He was
predeceased by his parents, Mr. Sam Jones and Mrs. Maereatha Jones. He leaves to
cherish his memory, Mrs. Synester Jones, wife; children, Lindsey Jones, Jr., Cheryl
Denise Jones, and Michael Shea Jones (Tressa); Grandchildren, Lindsey Donnell
Jones (Darrilyn), Christopher Jones, Dante' Jones, Nia Koren Jones, Koi Alexis
Jones, and Tyi Ayana Jones; Great grandchildren, Justin and London Jones;
Brother, Earl Jones; Sister, Delores Jones; Sister-in-law, Michelle Hall (Willie);
Brother-in-law, Robert Pitts, Jr. (Bobbie); a number of nieces, nephews, cousins,
other relatives and friends
