Mrs. Rosalind
Carter
d. Jul 1, 2026
Elder Rosalind King Carter was born on May 18, 1951, to the late Carrie King and Clarence King in Jacksonville, Florida. She answered God’s call to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Rosalind attended William M. Raines High School and was a proud Viking graduate of the Class of 1969. As a legacy of distinction (Ichiban), Rosalind loved playing the flute and the piccolo in Raines Marching Band while serving with purpose as the flute section leader. Furthering her education, she attended Bethune Cookman College, where she started in the Bethune Cookman Marching Wildcats (The Pride) and sang in the school choir. She graduated on May 20, 1974, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
At the age of 23 years old, Rosalind met Louis Carter while working on his mail route, and he asked her out on a date where she could order anything on the menu. She accepted the date, chose the lobster, and from that moment, their beautiful love story was birthed. Rosalind King accepted Louis Carter’s marriage proposal, and they were soon united in holy matrimony on January 4, 1975, at Simpson United Methodist Church, where Reverend S.S Robinson officiated. From this union, three sons were born: Clayton, Elliot, and Nicholas. On January 4, 2025, Louis and Rosalind celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they shared a beautiful champagne toast, Whitman sampler chocolates, and exchanged stories of their life as well as loving heartfelt cards. The love of her life, Louis Carter preceded her in death on January 15, 2025.
Rosalind began her career with Duval County Office of the Public Defender where she served faithfully as an Executive Administrator for thirty years. Rosalind was known for her caring and engaging personality to many people who encountered her sweet spirit. Her love did not merely pass through this world; rather, it settled into the very fabric of every life she touched, weaving an invisible tapestry of grace that remains eternally warm, while ensuring her gracious tenderness was genuinely felt by everyone with whom she connected. She received numerous awards and recognitions for serving while supporting multiple public defenders. After thirty unwavering years of service, sustained by her faith in God and dedication, Rosalind retired on December 6, 2008, a beautiful journey fulfilled.
A pillar of grace at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church (BBIC) since 1987, Rosalind poured her heart into every holy space she touched. She was devoted to serving in ministry in various capacities. She was a member of the BBIC Chancel Choir; served in Children’s Church and participated in Tuesday Prayer and Wednesday Noon Day Bible Study services. She also planted seeds of wisdom as a teacher for the Changing Women Church School class and tenderly co-lead with Elder Beverly Clark the former Women's Ministry with loving kindness shown to all who encountered her. In addition, Elder Rosalind graciously organized with her leadership team, The Daughters of Judah Book Club, a lovely sacred gathering of Bethel women who, through the gentle grace of Rosalind’s loving heart, became soul sisters, holding one another tenderly through every milestone and hardship, forever entwined in an unbreakable bond of unconditional love, mutual trust, and unwavering loyalty.
On August 17, 2003, Rosalind answered a historic calling taking her cherished place among the first group of women ever licensed to preach at The Bethel Church, a sacred honor that crowned her lifelong devotion to her calling to serve in ministry. All these beautiful threads of faithfulness found their crowning light on July 18, 2010, when Bishops Rudolph McKissick, Jr. and Sr. laid their hands upon her and ordained her as an Elder, forever consecrating a life wholly and radiantly given to God.
Rosalind was preceded in death by her mother, Carrie King (July 10, 2009), her father, Clarence King (June 30, 2016), and her twin sister, Rosemary King Walker (October 16, 2005).
Her legacy to celebrate her life and remember her loving heart continues with her beloved sons: Clayton, Sr., (loving daughter in law April); Elliot, (loving daughter in law Kimberly); and Nicholas (Dalaniece). Her handsome grandsons: Christian Carter (Ava Cole) and Clayton L. Carter, Jr. (Clay J). Her beautiful newborn great-grandson, Adrian Cole. Her loving sisters: Mrs. Jacquelyn Clarke (loving brother-in-law Peter), and Felicia Guy. Godson: Kameron Cue. Nieces: Diane Roberts (Mel), Rachel Clarke, Janaé Guy, and Julia Clarke. Nephews: Jared Walker (Adair) and Alonzo Davis, Jr. Great nieces and great-nephews, numerous cousins, classmates, neighbors and beloved friends.
