Obituary

On October 14, 1933, John and Elnora Montford of Macon, Georgia welcomed Gladys Inez Montford to the world.  She was the 7th of 14 children in her family and learned early to be a big help to her Mother both inside and outside of the home.  "The Hill" was her village and served as the foundation for loving and caring relationships which lasted throughout her life.

Gladys attended the local Bibb County schools and graduated from Ballard High School.  She later received her nursing certificate form the Florida Junior College.  After moving to Jacksonville, she had several employers where she made many friends.  Her last was Mike Shad Ford from which she retired after 35 years as a new car detail clerk.

Her Christian journey began as a child in Macon.  She gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Lundy Chapel Baptist Church.  At the time of her passing, she was a member of the former United Baptist Church where she served many years as Sunday School teacher and Superintendent.  She also led the church's hospitality outreach.

Gladys was married twice and was the Mother of two children; Barbara Chambers Battle and Moses Wesley Ford (deceased).

Mrs. Campbell is survived by:  her loving daughter, Barbara, sisters;  Bernice Mosley, Alvesta Brown and Rosa McElroy, sisters-in-law, Gladys Montford and Beatrice Montford and a number of other sorrowing relatives and friends
