Obituary

John 11:25-26. Jesus told her, I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will

live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.

Shirley Ann Morris Johns was born September 17, 1953 to the late Lee Morris and the late

Lorene Pace Morris in Jacksonville, Florida. Shirley is proceeded in death by her brothers Floyd

Renard Morris and Willie James Morris.

On Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 6:23pm, Shirley transitioned from this earthly kingdom to her

heavenly kingdom at the age of 69 years old.

Shirley was a lifetime native of Jacksonville, Florida and was educated in the Public School

System in Duval County. After graduating from high school, she worked at various companies

being a very committed, hard worker and team player. She took great pride in being employed

by the world-renowned company Coach. Before passing away, she was employed at Setzer's &

Company Inc.

Shirley's grew up in a religious family and never wavered from her faith. At an early age, she

accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. She was a longtime and devoted

member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida under the leadership of the

late Reverend W.L. Glanton, Pastor.

She was the type of person that kept to herself, was quiet and very passive, yet could be very

outspoken. She lived life, enjoyed her life, but most importantly She loved her family. Shirley

also loved to travel, go on cruises and amusement parks. She had a very great sense of humor

and would have the family laughing with her jokes and creative pranks. In her spare time, She

enjoyed watching Lifetime Movie Network as well as the Oxygen Network and ID Channel that

featured true crimes. In addition, Shirley enjoyed reading, studying the Bible amongst herself

and with her family. Her true passion was for the creative arts. She was a triple threat. She was

blessed with a gift from God in triple combo fashion. Shirley has the creative writing skills of the

late great Ernest Hemingway, poetry skills of the late great Mayo Angelou, and the skills of an

artist of the late great Pablo Picasso. Creative writing, poetry, and art were her true passion.

She would spend hours upon hours writing poetry and drawing. From Artwork to animation,

she was extremely talented.

She was such a beautiful person with a beautiful spirit with a heart of gold. She would be there

amily through the good times, and the bad storms. She will be forever loved, truly

missed and all of the memories and experiences will live in our hearts forever.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory and legacy; her sisters, Mary Helen Hopkins, Martha

Dugger (Jimmy), Mae Lee Durkins, and Ms. Janet Morris; brother Herman Morris (Patricia);

nieces Kimberly C. Hopkins-Lopez (Earl), Bridget L. Durkins, Melanie Morris, April Morris,

Ieashia P. Hopkins, Latoya Morris and Gameela Durkins; nephew, Norman L. Durkins; great

nieces Zuri Durkins, Miya Morris, Darianna Woods, Taylor Cooper; great-nephews, Madubuike

  1. Ekpecham, Akeem Morris, Purcelle Morris, Miyon Hagan, Raheem Morris, Zane Morris, and

other cousins, and relatives throughout Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Georgia, New York that

love, care, and will miss Shirley immensely.
