Obituary

Ms.  Leassie Claretta Armstrong was born of the union of the late William Armstrong, Sr and Willie Mae Robinson Armstrong on December 31, 1940 in St. Marys, Georgia.  She received her early education in the public schools of Duval County, graduating from New Stanton Senior High School- Class of 1958.  Furthering her education, she matriculated at Edwards Waters College and Tennessee State University of Nashville, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Her career began in Evanston, Illinois where she worked as a Librarian at Northwestern University. She was also employed by the State of Illinois as a Social Worker, having rendered many years of dedicated service while residing in Chicago. Ms. Armstrong relocated to Washington, DC where she expanded her career into the healthcare field and was among very few African American business owners. Her research clinic specializing in skin care was located a few blocks from the White House in the heart of DC, as known as The Wall Street of DC.  Ms. Armstrong was the founder and developer of Noire, a skin care line in which she received much recognition, sponsorship from Johnson & Johnson, and television appearances as a Skin Care Consultant. In 2002, Ms. Armstrong earned a Master of Public Administration in Public Management from the University of the District of Columbia. Throughout her career she devoted many years of service working for the United States Government in various roles before she retired.

For over thirty years, Ms. Armstrong was a communicant of St. Martins Catholic Church of Washington, DC, FR Michael Kelley, Rector. Her many interests include photography, golf, tennis, frequenting museums and traveling. She enjoyed attending the U.S. Open in N.Y. and traveling back home to Florida where she would attend The Amelia Island Championship Tennis Tournament, held in Amelia Island Plantation.

On March 25, 2023, Ms. Leassie Claretta Armstrong peacefully passed away in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory, her siblings, Mrs. Carole Armstrong Jenkins(Frederick), William Armstrong, Jr.(Gwendolyn), and Ms. Sherri Armstrong Broughton; nieces and nephews, Michael Meeks, Mrs. Maria Meeks Howell(Kermit), Ms. Monica Meeks Maragh, Ms. Andrea Armstrong Boyd, Ms. Kimberly Armstrong; dear friend, Milton; and a number of grand nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
