Obituary

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of well-known Librarian and Educator, Ms. Myrtle W. Turner will be held 10 AM, SATURDAY, September 14, 2019 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, where she held faithful membership, with Rev. Debra Thompson, Pastor, officiating.  Ms. Turner passed away peacefully September 6, 2019.  A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, having resided in Jacksonville most of her life, she attended the local public schools of Duval County, graduating from Boylan-Haven School for Girls.  Furthering her education, she attended Hampton Institute (now University), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Ms. Turner also attended Northwestern University, where the Master degree in Education was conferred and Florida State University, where the Master degree in Library Science was conferred.  As one of Duval County's Outstanding Educators, Ms. Turner was employed by Duval County School System, having rendered over twenty four years of dedicated service before retiring. She was later employed by the City of Jacksonville as a Librarian, where she rendered over twenty years of dedicated service before retiring.  Other affiliations include being a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Hampton University Alumni Association, United Methodist Women, Life Member of the NAACP and Les Fleurs Social Club.  Survivors include a number of loving relatives and friends. THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING.  The Family will receive friends at the mortuary FRIDAY from 5 PM until 7 PM.  Sorority Rites will begin at 7 PM Friday.  Memorialization will be by Cremation.
