Obituary

The Love, The Life and The Legacy of Reverend Charles Edward West, Jr.

Reverend Charles Edward West, Jr., affectionately known as "Charlie," was born on November 7, 1951 in Bainbridge, Georgia to Charles and Laura West.  To their union ten children were born.  At an early age, he confessed Christ and received salvation at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Macclenny, Florida, where he served.

He grew up in Macclenny, Florida and was educated in the Baker County Public School System. He was a graduate of Keller High School, where he was active in sports.  After graduation, he was drafted in the United States Army and proudly served and was Honorably Discharged after two years.  Upon returning from the Army, he was employed by Florida/Ameristeel, Baldwin, Florida until he retired.

In his early adulthood, he married his High School sweetheart, Patsy Davis.  To that union two children were born, Cornelius and Brian.  He later married Eldora (Dee) Scott, who served with him in ministry.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sons, Cornelius West and Jamaal Ross and spouse, Katheleen West.

Reverend West heeded his call to ministry and soon preached his Trial Sermon in September 1985.  He was ordained and loved serving, teaching and pastoring God's people.  He formerly served as Pastor of Greggs Temple A.M.E. Church and as Associate Minister, Philip R. Cousin A.M.E. Church, Jacksonville, Florida.

On Wednesday, June 23, 2021, this worker in God's Vineyard, this soldier in the Army of the Lord; was called from Labor into Eternal Rest.  God lifted his burdens, called him home and gave him peace.  His legacy will continue through his children, and children's children; sons, Brian West (Denelle), Seattle, Washington and Charles West, III, Live Oak, Florida; daughter, Brian Wilcox, Waycross, Georgia; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; mother, Laura West; sisters, Patricia Stewart, Peggy West and Barbara McElvy; brothers, Larry West, Sr., Carl West, Josepha West, Jackie West (Cynthia), Danny West and Christopher West; a number of nieces, nephews, other loving family, dedicated friends and colleagues.

His life echoes the words of the Apostle Paul in proclaiming to the world, "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."  II Timothy 4:6-8

His love of family and friends was undeniable and will always live in our hearts.
