Mrs. Rosie Lee Walker Oatis was born November 6, 1934 in Lamar County, Mississippi to the union of the late Shump and Mrs. Eula Walker.
She was united in holy matrimony to Daily Oatis. They moved to Bogalusa, Louisiana, where Rosie joined Harry's Chapel United Methodist Church and served on several committees.
Later, Mrs. Oatis moved to Jacksonville, Florida and became a member of The Bethel Church, under the pastorate of Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Jr., Lead Pastor and Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Sr., Pastor Emeritus.
Mrs. Oatis also lived in Savannah, Georgia, where she was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Perry Tyson.
Her hobbies included quilting and serving her community, but her main accomplishment was writing her memoir "A Slave In My Own Home."
She was predeceased by her husband Daily Oatis; sons, Charles Oatis and Lonnie Burton and grandson, Gerrard Toomer.
On January 5, 2022, at 87 years of age, received her wings and went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Moses Oatis (Loyetta) of Savannah, Georgia, Gloria Oatis Toomer (Harvest) of Jacksonville, Florida, Richie Lee Oatis and Albert Oatis of Jacksonville, Florida and Linda Oatis of Savannah, Georgia; sisters, Annie Walker of Englewood, New Jersey and Rita Harris of Sumrall, Mississippi; brothers, Danny Walker (C'ella), David walker and Aaron Walker all of Mississippi; sixteen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a number of other relatives and friends.
