Obituary

Vera Vesta Robinson Green , a true matriarch who placed family and friends above all else, passed peacefully on June 18, 2022. Vera was the fourth child of Edward Horace Robinson, Sr. and Viola Brown Robinson. She was born on September 12, 1940, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Vera received her early education at Oakland Elementary School and attended Mathew W. Gilbert Junior and Senior High Schools, graduating in the class of 1958. While in high school, Vera enjoyed many pursuits and interests, and always exuded a true love for people — family, friends, classmates, and educators. Vera was an extraordinary cook, and was known for her exceptional hosting and catering. She often hosted meetings of her classmates of '58 at her home.

Vera married William Green, Sr. in December of 1960. This union created five boys who were the joy of her life. After high school, Vera attended Lincoln Business College. She was uber intelligent, extraordinarily resourceful and knew how to maximize opportunity when it availed itself. She coupled her education with strong entrepreneurial instincts which led to her owning and operating Wig City located on Soutel Drive in north Jacksonville. Vera's managerial skills landed her in a career for many years as a manager for Sunbeam Bakery. Although she retired from Sunbeam, she was not one to rest, and worked for Jacksonville Transportation Authority for many years before deciding to leave the workforce permanently.

Vera would "go to war" for those she loved, particularly her daughter and those five boys. Vera was the personification of what motherhood, sisterhood, and friendship should look like; a loving spirit who provided unwavering support while holding you accountable, at the same time. Vera shared a kind of love that was simultaneously firm and nurturing. She did not hesitate to tell those she loved exactly what she thought, while still "writing the check" to help get you out of a tough spot.To raise one girl (deceased) and five boys to be the human beings they are today took strength, discipline, courage, virtue, and an incredible amount of LOVE. Vera's tenacity, tenderness, truth-telling, and tough love will truly be missed, especially within the Robinson Clan.

Vera leaves her devoted sons, William, Samuel (Fannie), Edward (Pam), Dale Sr. (Leonie), and Leon who will forever lovingly cherish her memory. She leaves grandchildren Dashina, Anthony, Kiara, Nijah, and Dale Jr.; and great grandchildren Demoni, Khloe and Makai. She leaves siblings Jacquelyn and Saundra.

Vera was predeceased in death by her daughter Janice; siblings Doris, Edward II, Yvonne, Elbert, and Karlyn.

Family members will ensure her spirit lives on by embodying the fierce wisdom, humor, joy, and devotion that Vera shared with all.
