Winona Hall
Gatson
December 25, 2023
Winona Lorraine Hall Gatson was born on January 1, 1940 to the late William Hall and Lavania Lipscomb Hall in Jacksonville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William H. Hall and Thomas J. Hall (Palm) and sister, Mary E. Hall.
Winona, affectionately known as "Nona" was educated inthe Duval County school system and graduated from New Stanton High School in 1957. Later, she attended William Penn School of Business, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she obtained her degree in Business. After her children entered kindergarten, she became employed by Southern Bell as a telephone operator. She advanced to computer services, and worked in the Tape Library on the evening shift. Her final position with the communications company was with AT&T in Hotel Billing Operation System (HBOS).
Winona traveled in her role with HBOS to many states. She continued this love of travel through the years. In 1991, she married Rev. Samuel Gatson (deceased). She shared her love of travel with him and they enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, and Alaska, as well as road trips to up state New York and Canada. After her retirement, the two worked together at Mary Anne's Golden Fried Chicken. Winona often commented she was working harder than she ever had, but enjoyed talking with customers and their family of employees. Winona celebrated her 75th birthday in style, hosting a banquet complete with her son, Ken as DJ and a dance floor. She said growing up she had never had a birthday party. Family and friends spoke of their relationships with her, some of which started in elementary school. Shortly following this wonderful event, she traveled with her nephew, Douglas Hall, to the Florida Keys and Spain.
Winona transitioned to eternal life on Monday, December 25, 2023. Our mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend will continue in our hearts to light our way. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memory; children, Mrs. Jacquelyne Mack (Steven Hammond), and Dr. Kenneth Mack (Dr.
Carmen Shirley); step-daughters, Mrs. April Kight (Jerald) and Ms. Benita M. Gatson; grandchildren, Ms. Jordan Mack, Dr. Jenaye Mack, Ms. Jasmine Mack, Ms. Kelsey Mack, Jerrel Kight, Joe'l Kight, Abrial Kight, Jacoby Robinson (Afton), Jaleah Pete, Jaylen Gatson-Pete and
